Urine Separation and Water Saving

The film presents the sanitary building for students at the Valley View University in Ghana. The project was supported by the German Federal Ministry of Research and Education as part of the research project "Ecological Development at Valley View University in Accra, Ghana".

Urine is collected separately for fertilisation of agricultural areas and black water is collected for biogas production and waste water treatment on the campus.

The building is a public toilet on campus next to the cafeteria, supplied by rain water collected from the cafeteria roof. All installations are water saving, using 4 to 2 litres flush and dry urinals.

The concept and planning was developed by the sub project partner Bauhaus University, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Detlev Glücklich and Nicola Fries. All installations were delivered by Berger Biotechnik GmbH, Hamburg, Germany.
